The best in women's hoops to face each other this weekend

It might not be time for the Mid-American Conference champion to be crowned quite yet, but on Sunday the women's basketball division leaders are in action against each other.

Miami (14-6 overall, 8-1 MAC) will play host to Western Michigan (13-8, 8-2 MAC) to see which division is on top. Miami is atop the East Division, three games ahead of Kent State while Western Michigan is a mere one game ahead of Ball State in the West Division.

With a 67-65 victory in Toledo during the weekend, Miami will look to carry momentum into Sunday's game. Miami ended a 14-game losing streak to the Rockets. It was the RedHawks' longest losing streak in school history against a conference foe. The win in Savage Hall also ended a 10-game losing streak there with Miami being only the second East Division team to win in Toledo since divisional play began in the 1997-1998 season.

Western Michigan is coming off a sweep of its series with Northern Illinois, thanks to a 79-69 win during weekend action.

Guard Casey Rost is two points shy of 1,500 career points with the

Broncos. Rost already has more than 200 career 3-pointers and is one of only 10 players in MAC history to record such success from behind the arc.

MAC names Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Distance and height were the major ingredients for the male and female track and field athletes who earned Mid-American Conference Athlete of the Week honors.

Eastern Michigan's Gavin Thompson recorded the fastest time in the MAC this season in the mile with a time of 3 minutes, 59.05 seconds. Thompson placed third in the mile at the Meyo Invitational held at the University of Notre Dame.

Thompson finished just seven hundredths of a second faster than teammate Jordan Desilets. Thompson and Desilets are the first MAC runners to record times in less than four minutes in the mile event.

Laura Olson became an NCAA provisional qualifier for Buffalo this weekend in the pole vault.

At the Syracuse Invitational, Olson vaulted a height of 13 feet 3/4 inches. The mark is two feet more than her nearest competitor in the event. She gained a new personal best by 2 3/4.
