At yesterday's Athens County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners approved a new Tobacco Prevention Field Coordinator, Deanna Bragg. He will oversee the new tobacco prevention program sponsored by the Department of Job and Family Services. Anne Hanson, who was originally offered the job, declined to accept the position.
The Athens County Tax Assistance Center hired Jody Gilbraith, Shiree Moore and Melissa Mesaros, to work at the center.

¥ Kara Edmonds of Hocking Athens Perry Community Action proposed the Nelsonville Roof project for the preservation of the Nelsonville High School and Junior High.
The Nelsonville High School Restoration Foundation acquired the buildings two years ago and was given $60,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission to repair the roof leakage.
The Athens County Commissioners approved a required 20 percent local match of $16,000. Once the repairs are completed and paid for, the building will be preserved as apartments.
- A grant of $500,000 also was rewarded to the village of Glouster to replace water lines, repair black top roads and repair sidewalks and curbs.
