Women's Basketball: CeCe Hooks named MAC Player of the Year

CeCe Hooks was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, the MAC announced Tuesday. Hooks also won her third-consecutive MAC Defensive Player of the Year award and was selected as first team All-MAC.

Hooks led the conference in scoring this season with 26.3 points per game, which was also the third best in the nation. She was the MAC Player of the Week five times this season. Hooks is the first Bobcat to win Player of the Year since Caroline Mast did it three times in her career, most recently in 1986. Hooks joined Mast as the only two Bobcats to score 2,000 career points earlier this season.

Hooks was the best defensive player in the MAC for the third consecutive season. This year, she had 63 steals and led the conference with 3.3 per game. She also had the 11th-most blocks in the conference.

Joining the senior in the awards were Erica Johnson, Gabby Burris and Madi Mace. Johnson earned third team All-MAC honors, and Burris made her mark as an honorable mention. Mace was on the all-freshman team after scoring 8.2 points per game with 5.2 rebounds per game this season.

Ohio and Hooks will look to continue the season Wednesday as they play Ball State in the first round of the MAC Tournament in Cleveland.
