Women's cross country team places 6th

Three Ohio runners finished in the top 30 as the women's cross country team placed sixth of six Division I teams at the Mel Brodt Invitational Saturday at Bowling Green.

Ohio's average time was 19:25 for the 3.1-mile run. The team finished with a total time of 1:37.05.

Coach Clay Calkins said it was a good start for the team this season.

Carime Reinhart led Ohio runners with a ninth-place finish. Reinhart said she was happy with how she ran at her first college meet.

With all my friends and family there

it made it extra special to do well she said.

Andrea Maas finished 16th with a time of 19:02.

I definitely did not run like I should have she said. That was kind of a downer.

Ali Green also finished in the top 30, in 19:40. Calkins said he was happy to have a third runner perform well at the meet.

She was excited about her run and we were happy as coaches by her performance.

Alicia Meyers finished 32nd overall, Lauren Birnie placed 37th and Anna Wines finished 40th.

Tennessee's Felicia Guilford won the race by more than ten seconds (17:22).

Calkins was happy with Ohio's improvement over their seventh-place team finish at last year's invitational.

This year we made an overall improvement over last year's meet

he said. It was a solid meet overall.

Bowling Green, the only other Mid-American Conference team at the meet, finished second in the Division I team standings.

Ohio will travel to Canton for the Malone Invitational Friday.
