It’s finally that time of the year where the leaves turn to hues of red and yellow because, well, they die. In fact, if the leaves could talk they would probably be screaming in pain as they make their descent to the ground before we step on them. And when they do finally reach their final resting place, we disturb them by raking them up into piles to jump in. Yup, we jump into piles of dead leaf things. So in the spirit of the spook season, here are a few reasons why you should never jump into a leaf pile:
The leaves are there for a reason, so don’t mess them up
Ever wonder how that mystery pile of leaves got there? Think before you jump. You never know what it’s covering up. You could be one jump away from inevitable doom as you fall into a pit of despair that the pile was trying so hard to protect you from. Those leaves were there for a reason. Maybe they are also there for an SOS message, or maybe it’s some new form of a crop circle.
There could be mold in the leaves
It is a legitimate concern. For people with mold allergies, this could prove to be a bad time. When things, you know, die, they sometimes tend to mold. Leaves are no exception. If you have a mold allergy, you’d better hope the pile isn’t decomposing. You could be jumping face first into date with an inhaler if you do. Some people, however, cultivate the mold to use as soil and other things. At the very least, leaves are good at that.
There are probably bugs in there
Ticks and other bugs live in those, so just don’t jump in them unless you want an army of ticks to suck the life out of your body. That’s probably dramatic, but still you should be careful.
Do you really trust the leaves?
Did you rake the leaves? Do you know if it is a real pile or faux-pile? The best way to avoid the problem is to only jump into a pile of leaves you raked, if you stumble upon an unfamiliar pile, you must do the following:
- Stop
- Drop
- Roll 8 feet away
- Proceed to walk around the leaves
Now, those may seem like far-reaching concerns. But in order to have a safe fall, it’s crucial to just avoid leaf piles at all costs. Unless you want to maybe get a tick, then hop on in you crazy person.
