Michael Real, director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, interviewed as one of four finalists for the journalism dean's position at Colorado University in Boulder.
"I am not on the market looking for another job," Real said. "Colorado University had asked me to apply several times before, and I finally considered it."
Real said he considered the job because he has family there and has always been a Colorado fan. " I like the idea of being close to Denver, which is major media market."
Real said The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at CU is more research oriented than Scripps.
"I am very happy here; OU is a great place. If I happened to get this position, I'd have other things to consider in order to make the decision to move to CU."
Real got his doctorate at the University of Illinois. He taught for nine years at the University of California at San Diego and 20 years at San Diego State University, where he was also the director of the school of communications there.
Anne Heinz, chair of the Dean's search committee at CU, said they have worked towards finding the right candidates for this position.
"The committee came up with the top four applicants, and they are all strong candidates," she said.
Real will be in Colorado this week, interviewing with several groups, including the advisory board and the school's provost, Philip DiStefano.
"We are very excited that Michael will be visiting; he is a strong candidate for this position." Heinz said
The provost will decide on the new dean after he meets with the search committee the second week of March. The decision is expected by mid-March.
