Your Turn: A bitter manner is not a sorority trait, but a personality trait

Hardly ever am I an outspoken person, but I wanted to write a response referring to the article titled Sorority members shouldn't treat other girls in bitter manner. It is obvious that the writer feels strongly about this issue and her opinions on the matter. But, is there really an issue?

Walking down Court Street, you are surrounded by sorority bags, hats and shirts, but does this mean that we should stereotype those people and assume that they have a bitter attitude just because a few girls were mean to you? There are many organizations and groups all over campus, and let me tell you, it is possible to find that type of person in all of them. So what I am saying is that just because those girls who are at your boyfriend's fraternity house and saying immature things, doesn't mean that their inappropriate attitude developed from being a part of a sorority. Also, I understand that you acknowledge that some sorority girls are not like this. Even though you point that out, it is still not fair to blame the sorority for the other girls acting like immature high school students. The reason they are rude is because of their personality. Maybe they are jealous that you have a boyfriend who is in that fraternity or maybe those rude comments are a piece of their character.

From this letter, I am sure everyone assumes that I am in a sorority, but I'm not. I have numerous friends who are in sororities and none of them have bitter attitudes.-
