Soccer: Bobcats finish season with close quarterfinal defeat

Sarah Brown made one last attempt at a goal in the 84th minute of the Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinals at Northern Illinois, but it wasn't enough.

Ohio's season came to a close yesterday as the team lost to Northern Illinois 1-0.

The Huskies' Jenna Clausen scored in the 21st minute of the game to put her team up for good.

The Bobcats ended their season with a 5-11-3 record.

Erika Schmitt, who scored the game-winning goal in Thursday night's game against Akron and was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Four Team, led the team in shots with three, two on goal. Brown and Lindsey Price each had one.

Schmitt was also named the MAC Soccer Player of the Week for the third time this season for her performance in the Akron game. Against the Zips, she totaled two goals and one assist, having a hand in every goal of the 3-2 double-overtime victory. She was the leading scorer for the 'Cats this season with seven goals.

Goalkeeper Jess MacLean tallied four saves in the net.

Ohio will graduate six seniors this season, including tri-captains Callie Broomfield, Larissa Najjar and Mary McPhail.
