A chemical leak has occurred at an Austin Powder Co. manufacturing plant in McArthur, Ohio. The factory, located on Powder Plant Road, is known for developing industrial explosives.
Emergency Management said the leak originated from a storage tank on site containing 50,000 gallons of hazardous nitric acid.
An immediate evacuation order has been issued for the entire Zaleski area, a village near the leak.
The Federal Aviation Administration has placed a 30-mile no-fly zone around the plant with a 23,000-foot ceiling.
Another evacuation order has been set in place by the Vinton County Sheriff's Office.
According to dispatch, the evacuation is set for state Route 677, U.S. 50 to Zaleski, Creek Road, Infirmary Road and Morgan Road.
All people evacuating are being directed to the Vinton County High School gym. To help with transportation, school buses are being sent to the Saint Sylvester Catholic Church.
