Other Ohio forward crashes the boards

At first glance, Ohio women's basketball forward Erin Isbell does not appear to share much in common with Detroit Pistons forward Ben Wallace, the six-foot-nine-inch, 240-pound rebounding specialist. A look at the statistics, however, tells a different story.

Just as Wallace averages twice as many rebounds per game compared to points per game, Isbell has recorded more rebounds than points 17 times this season.

The thing about Erin is she has such an aggressive attitude

coach Lynn Bria said.

Isbell said the fact that her efforts are not always recognized in the scoring column does not bother her.

To me it's more important than scoring Isbell said.

In addition to eight double-digit rebounding performances this season, Isbell also has posted double digits in scoring five times. Bria said Isbell has shown potential on offense, but has not completely taken advantage of her offensive opportunities.

I don't know why she lacks the confidence once she gets the ball in the paint

but she really can score when she wants to

Bria said. She's getting better at it

but she's not very consistent on the offensive end yet.

Isbell said her primary role for the team is rebounding, but it is imperative that she looks to score as well.

I look to rebound the ball first

Isbell said. Sometimes I don't look to shoot as often as I should

so a lot of times that presents a problem for my team because people can slack off of me and double 'Tree (LaTreece Bagley).

Bria inducted into hall of fame

As if Ohio's 80-66 victory against rival Marshall was not enough for Bria last weekend, she was inducted into the Charleston's Golden Eagle Sports Hall of Fame.

Bria graduated from Charleston in 1990 after an illustrious career in both basketball and tennis. As a senior, Bria was named to the first team All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletics Conference in both sports.

Bria said she felt honored to be considered, but she did not expect to be included.

It was a surprise

she said. I've got some pretty good numbers

but I wasn't sure I was really worthy when I look at everyone who is in that Hall of Fame

and how many great players have been in there.
