In May 2025, 1.45 million Ohioans received monthly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits. The SNAP program is how the federal government distributes money to citizens who can’t afford to buy food. We’ve entered the first week of November, and SNAP has halted its electronic food benefit program that provides low-income households with food. Amid this crisis, Ohio has stepped up to bridge the gap between the loss of benefits and the demand for aid from food banks.

The ongoing debate over what new businesses to bring to Athens is often stuck in a loop of missed opportunities. As an Ohio University student, I believe the city planning conversation needs to stop giving community members what we don’t want and instead aggressively pursue what we do want. With 24,000 residents in Athens, Bobcats are begging for diversity in retail, not just more bars and fast food.

This weekend is Ohio University’s Dads weekend, filled with events, including zip lining, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office’s chili cook-off, Casino Royale and more throughout campus. Although many students enjoy these events, some students could be grieving a deceased loved one from afar, and this weekend may affect them negatively.

Mary Shelley's “Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus” (1818) is one of the most acclaimed classic books and has faced no shortage of adaptations since its release, particularly film adaptions. Whether they be in the form of the most well-known “Frankenstein”(1931), “Bride of Frankenstein” (1935) or “Young Frankenstein” (1974), most adaptations stray away from the novel’s roots in expressing the mortality of The Creature, instead going all in on the horror aspect of the story.

The United States Government has been on shutdown since Oct. 1 at midnight. At the time this article was written, it had been 28 days and 12 hours. The only thing that has come from this is that Congressional Representatives and Senators are no longer working for you. The government has turned its back on the American people in the name of uncompromisable negotiations.
