Mothdom is an all female band from Ohio University. November 22, they played at Big Run Kava Bar on Court St., with local musician, Brandon Jackson, playing alongside them. The band says they love the opportunity to play at new places in Athens, and their fans say they especially love their cover of Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan!

Many Ohio University students are questioning ways to access contraceptives and reproductive health resources on campus and in Athens. The Office of Health Promotion worked with other Baker Center offices and Athens Resources to host The Sexual Health Resource Fair Friday. Hundreds of students piled in to learn more about the resources they could access.

Every year, seniors in the School of Dance have the opportunity to showcase what they've learned with the Senior Capstone Concert. They can chose to either choreograph a group dance or their own solo. Seniors say they love incorporating different classes into their dances to show off the many ranges of talent.

A brand new restaurant, Hot Box Chicken, opened on Court Street November 22. The owner decided to open this spot because his son attends Ohio University and he was interested in available storefronts. Hot Box is not a franchise restaurant, and students say the chicken is even better than Canes.

Food trucks are becoming very popular here in Athens, but with that popularity comes a lack of spots to park the trucks. Most of the food trucks park on Union St., but they say they need more space. Owner of Rise & Grind coffee truck, Brandon Buckly, plans to bring this initiative to city council for more user friendly and accessible spots.

As part of Native American Heritage Month, the Women's Center and Multicultural Center held the Lil' Red Dress Project, which raises awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women. The red color symbolizes the blood of the sacred lives lost due to violence against native women. Students at the event say this problem needs way more attention brought to it in the mainstream media.

The Student Alumni Board held their second annual Cultural Diversity Fashion Show Tuesday, November 19. The goal of the show was to showcase intercultural professionalism through fashion. SAB's diversity, equity and inclusion team says they want people to know professionalism can look different for everyone depending on your culture.

Sunday, November 17, the first ever International Student Documentary Film Festival was put on by CIS. This festival allowed for international students to share more about their stories and traditions. International students say it's important for native students to learn about their cultures to broaden their mindsets.

Saturday, November 16 was full of performances, ethnic dishes and celebrations of different cultures. The international dinner's theme was "Passport to Flavors" in order to showcase different dishes all around the world. Guests experienced traditions, stories and history to honor the night.

Pickleball has become a very popular activity within the last couple of years, and OU students have hopped on the trend. Along with the pickleball club, other students say they enjoy playing pickleball to get a workout in and hangout with friends. Ping Recreation Center offers pickleball courts for anyone interested in playing.

OU's dining halls are now growing fresh produce for both educational and nutritional purposes for students. Just recently, they installed two new gardens located in both Nelson Court and The District to begin this initiative. As part of this initiative, they are donating this fresh produce to the food pantry, Cat's Cupboard.

The Athena Cinema in Uptown Athens has been a historic spot for many years. The cinema has been undergoing renovations to it's theaters over the last couple of months, with the third theatre opening just a few weeks ago. These renovations came just in time for the cinema's Sustainability Film Series, as more people will be heading to the theater.

Rural Action put on a soil health rally November 14 in front of the Athens Courthouse. Ohio State Representative, Juanita O. Libby is a junior here at Ohio University. She owns Libby's Pumpkin Patch, but due to the drought in southeast Ohio, she was not able to open this year. Instead, she created Libby's Bouquet Bar, a flower cart she parks on Union Street. Her father says the cart has been very popular and people especially love making their own bouquets.
