The 2026 Fest Season has started, and thousands of Ohio University students will flood from campus to the outer streets of Athens and celebrate the warm weather. For seniors, this marks the close of their final semester and the last moments for partying in Athens as a student. Due to the Fest Season party culture, students might drink or use substances more heavily. While the season is meant to be spent outside, with friends, without a care in the world, the weekend's festivities can also lead to unsafe behavior through excessive consumption.

One of the most moving parts of any awards ceremony is the "In Memoriam” section. While award shows are there to honor current outstanding performances, the “In Memoriam” section allows celebration for those who came before. In the middle of the show, everyone takes time to honor those who died in the past year, and watching this year's felt like a powerful celebration of life rather than a reminder of death.

According to the National Recreation and Park Association, “as little as 20 minutes a day spent outdoors helps reduce stress.” This is valuable advice, as the past winter in Athens was brutal, with snowstorms and ice covering the town. Snow was calculated to have reached over six inches in just one storm this past January. Now, we have reached the time when 40 degrees Fahrenheit feels warm. As temperatures continue to rise, so does the energy among college students who reside here.
