The Office of Health Promotion at Ohio University aims to provide students with resources for mental health, specifically through The Bandana Project. They have a team of peer educators to help support and empower students through their mental health journeys. The office also has many other resources for challenges such as violence prevention and alcohol and drug reduction.

Last week, Ohio University held a community service fair for MLK Week to showcase different nonprofit organizations and their missions. Members of the organizations expressed how important it is to make a difference in your community, and students were able to explore that.

Bird Ice Arena was closed for the entire 2024 fall semester, but it is finally back up and running. They've made repairs to mainly the ice, but also updates in the facility. The D1 hockey coach and a captain on the D2 hockey team express their excitement about being able to use their home arena again.

The Banana Bar Crawl, the biggest bar crawl in North America, according to @bananabarcrawl's Instagram, visited Athens over the weekend. Hundreds of students dressed up in their banana suits and traveled from bar to bar to take advantage of the drink deals provided by the crawl.

Friends of Athens CASA held their annual Reindeer Run December 7 at Eclipse Company Store to raise money for the Athens foster care system. They make the event super fun by dressing up in holiday attire and Santa even makes an appearance! All proceeds from this event will go towards helping the children in need.

The new Well-Being Wing in Ping Recreation Center is now open to everyone on campus. This is a space to focus on relaxation and mental health with massage beds, art and music, and calming spaces. The director of the Well-Being Wing says he hopes to expand this to even more buildings on campus in the future.

OU students got in the holiday spirit this past weekend by channeling their inner Santa. Students hit the house parties and Court St. dressed in their best Santa costumes, Christmas PJs and even reindeer outfits! Santa Fest is always such a fun way for students to close out the fall semester.

ACEnet, also known as the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks, hosted their annual Holiday Open House December 5. This event is an opportunity for local business and vendors to showcase their products and for consumers to shop local. Guests can also enjoy local food and drinks, which makes this a great holiday gathering.

The Center for Student Engagement and Leadership hosted a Cookies & Kits night, where they enjoy cookies and make study survival kits before finals week. The event is meant to help students destress and relax before finals. They also provided supplies for students to make their own finals week survival kits.

Ohio University Culinary Services put on their third annual Winter Fest December 4 to help students de-stress before finals week. The director of culinary services says the main goal of this event is to engage students with fun activities such as an ice skating rink in Nelson Dining Hall, making rootbeer floats and decorating cookies.

Mothdom is an all female band from Ohio University. November 22, they played at Big Run Kava Bar on Court St., with local musician, Brandon Jackson, playing alongside them. The band says they love the opportunity to play at new places in Athens, and their fans say they especially love their cover of Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan!
