The Bobcats were able to bust out the brooms Saturday afternoon after defeating Purdue Fort Wayne 9-1 at Bob Wren Stadium. Ohio (20-13, 11-9 Mid-American Conference) now has three series sweeps on the season, each picked up while at home.
The slight drizzle in the last few innings did not rain on the Bobcats’ parade. Ohio hit consistently during the game, spreading out its run production among several innings. Harry Witwer-Dukes led the charge with four RBIs in three different innings. Sebastian Fabik followed him closely with two of his own.

Timely hitting and dominant pitching performances helped propel the Bobcats over Eastern Michigan (8-17, 4-12 MAC) for their eighth win in a row over the Eagles.

Ohio (12-8, 12-8 MAC) entered its first match of the Mid-American Conference tournament in Stroh Center already in the semifinals, squaring off with Western Michigan (18-4, 18-4 MAC) for a bid to the finals. The Bobcats fought hard against the Broncos but were unable to come out on top.

The wind was whipping through Bob Wren Stadium as the Bobcats played the finale of a four-game series against Central Michigan (10-8, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) on Sunday afternoon. Players’ hats were flying across the field, and the ball was flying off the Chippewas’ bats. Ohio dropped the game 14-3, but walked away with a series split, their first with the Chippewas since interim head coach Craig Moore joined Ohio’s staff in 2012.

Ohio volleyball walked away from Northern Illinois with a series sweep this past weekend, taking down the Huskies (8-14, 8-14 MAC) 3-0 on Saturday to seal the deal. The Bobcats (11-7, 11-7 Mid-American Conference) had not swept a team series since February, when they defeated Buffalo 3-0 on Feb. 11 and Feb. 12.

The air was heavy in The Convo on Tuesday night as senior Vera Giacomazzi stepped onto her home court for the final time as an Ohio athlete. Giacomazzi and the Bobcats pushed their emotions aside and secured a 3-1 win over Kent State (12-7, 12-7 Mid-American Conference). Ohio’s win Tuesday locked the Golden Flashes out of the MAC tournament.

The match was a one-off since the Bobcats had already faced the Flashes earlier in the season. Ohio took the match 3-1, giving them the win in their final home match of the season.
