In the film Lo and Behold, Werner Herzog discusses how he had to request people to move back into a specific spot after they’ve stepped away to maintain the shot. The genre of nonfiction is a complex subject to discuss. Nonfiction doesn’t denote the genre. Rather, it presents something “without” fiction, which is not true. Instead, nonfiction is facts presented in creative ways. Nonfiction is shaped and defined by the ways creators work within this format of “creative fact.”

Antlers is the new Scott Cooper film with producer Guillermo Del Toro. Though the film hasn’t come out yet, early reviews have been mixed. Gore flourishes while characters dwindle in one-dimensional roles. Critics have said there is a possibility it’ll find cult fame.

In 1982 Vincent Canby had this to say on John Carpenter’s The Thing: “Sometimes it looks as if it aspired to be the quintessential moron movie of the '80s.” In tandem, The Thing was a box-office flop, earning only a little over its budget. Contemporary films like Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street outperformed their measly budgets and have formed lasting film legacies.

Halloween films are a hard sell for a portion of the population. Jump scares, violent imagery and, sometimes, unnerving scores are all it takes for a viewer to completely check out. Films like the recent Muppets Haunted Mansion toe this line, with horror and music, to mitigate the scares and push some exciting songs, resulting in a palpable and entertaining romp.

Star Wars: Visions marks a new entry into the Star Wars canon, with some out of continuity forays in the Galaxy far, far away. There are several stand outs among the episodes listed: “The Duel” and “The Ninth Jedi” being some the best Star Wars content. However, the best story in the collection is “Lop & Ochō.”

Horror has slowly come into the mainstream. Starting as industry staples, before moving underground and eventually reinventing itself. This can be categorized in a simple trajectory of Dracula to Night of the Living Dead to Halloween. Horror has been a constant element of the media, and it’s not going anywhere. James Wan’s Malignant is slated for Sept. 10 and promises to have a few scares with its release.

The trailer for the film “Those Who Wish Me Dead” depicts Angelina Jolie, a former wild-fire relief operator who tragically miscalculates a fire resulting in the loss of lives. Stationed at a fire watchtower, she encounters a boy who is being hunted by mercenaries. Pitched as an action film, with shady pasts and an abstract sense of violence, “Those Who Wish Me Dead” is an example of a Neo Western.

When it comes to Shakespeare, audiences think of the popular works like “Hamlet” and “Romeo and Juliet.” However, these are not the best works Shakespeare has to offer. Though each is popular since it tackles a certain demographic, college and high-school ages particularly, they do not fully represent the creative ways Shakespeare writes.
