The automatic flushing toilet was patented in 1988 as a way to eliminate the need to manually flush. The popular Captain Underpants book series is set in the very real city of Piqua, Ohio, due to Piqua’s history of underwear manufacturing and its discontinued Underwear Festival. But does author Dav Pilkey do Piqua justice in his series, or was the city chosen as a clever reference and nothing more? Having grown up in Piqua and binge-read all 12 epic novels in the Captain Underpants saga, I am ready to judge if the Piqua the waistband warrior occupies is the same Piqua I know and love.

While researching the regulations for mailing food to my international friends, I came across several articles listing common U.S. foods that were banned in other countries. To my horror, I learned how Wheat Thins had BHT on its packaging to preserve freshness, and Little Debbie Swiss Rolls had to carry a warning that it causes adverse effects in children due to having the additives Yellow 5 and Red 40 abroad.

Currently, the nation is suffering a bus driver shortage and Ohio is no exception. At least 40% of school districts in Ohio have had to cancel routes regularly, with some reportedly on the verge of collapse. While the pandemic has certainly played a role in this shortage, as a former bus driver’s daughter, I can say that the stress of driving a bus and the lack of consideration drivers are subjected to make bus driving unappealing.

Going to a religious school meant sex education was out of the question for me. My health teacher told our class we were “too immature” to handle the notorious talk. We weren’t ready to discuss sex, but that didn’t stop the school from kicking out a student when she got pregnant.

Pre-pandemic, I spent next to no time on social media, and my Facebook timeline was almost exclusively pictures my parents had tagged me in. Following the lockdown, I, like most people, increased my time spent online to make up for the lack of human contact while stuck at home.

YouTube is seen by many as a platform where anyone can make a name for themself, but when Butch Hartman joined the platform in 2015 and Chris Hansen in 2019, they were far from being nobodies. Hansen had made a name for himself outing pedophiles as the host of To Catch a Predator while Butch Hartman had created several iconic cartoons including The Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom. Many people were excited to see the men interacting with their fans, but their trust would soon be broken.
