On Wednesday, I received the greatest news of my entire life thus far: Slayer is reuniting for two shows in September. The text I received from my friend and fellow metal listener carried this life-altering message, stating boldly, “WE ARE SO BACK,” perfectly encapsulates how I felt for the rest of the day.

Written by the twistedly unserious mind behind "Jennifer's Body" and "Juno," "Lisa Frankenstein" is dripping in 1980s nostalgia and ultimately makes for a fun — if shallow — watch.

Hardcore punk has long been an exclusionary genre. Traditionally, anyone trying to get into the vast world of headbanging rage that makes up their respective hardcore scenes had to fall into a certain demographic — i.e., white men.

For some, the idea of spending the night in the woods invokes feelings of anxiety, stress and overall negativity. Add onto that the impending, life-changing event that is a student’s first semester of college, and doing anything outside is a no-go.

When I read the Metal Injection headline “Metallica’s Download Set Got Noise Complaint From 15 Miles Away,” all I could think was “rock on.” At the time, I was full of anticipation, as I was going to see the band on that same tour; if I got anything less than a similar sonic assault on my eardrums, I was going to be thoroughly disappointed.

Hole released the 12-track LP “Live Through This” on April 12, 1994. The band’s second album went multi-platinum in December of the same year and is undoubtedly one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

Metal Mondays is a pretty self-explanatory column; it’s just my takes on music every Monday. It started as my way to write about the best musical genre, but eventually evolved into a huge passion project for me. I made it a goal to write one every week for as long as I could, and I always enjoy writing them. Naturally, I signed up for one each week of winter break that The Post published stories.

On Dec. 2, 2023, rock history was made: Kiss performed in Madison Square Garden on the group’s last stop of the “The End of the Road” tour and announced it would be done with live tours. Although this is not the first time Kiss has gone on a farewell tour, many anticipated that this would be one of the last globe-spanning tours the legendary rock band would go on, largely due to individual members’ health issues and old age.

A soundtrack can make or break a movie. So many movies are greatly supported by their soundtrack, from recent blockbusters like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” to older films like “The Doom Generation” and “Top Gun.” Without the music those films used, they arguably would have been worse.

When I went to see “Saltburn” with one of my friends from high school over Thanksgiving break, I was expecting a goth version of “Call Me by Your Name.” It was what I was hoping for; watching a romantic drama is the perfect way to end the night after a long day at work. I had heard it was a little gross, but I was not thinking about that when the Nicole Kidman AMC Theatres commercial came on screen and the lights turned off.

Escuela Grind, the Massachusetts grindcore unit, has been an underground hit since its debut album “Indoctrination.” I have wanted to see this band live for years, and while I haven’t gotten the chance to, I am hoping for Escuela Grind to come to Columbus or Athens.

Last year, Dolly Parton was formally inducted into the hallowed Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. While this is a huge honor, Parton felt she was undeserving of the nomination. In her own words, she told Rolling Stone she felt as if she was “betraying somebody else” with her nomination.
