I spent my four years of undergrad vexed and pained by the annual student senate races. While I never thought of student senate itself as a cause of serious problems on campus, it seemed a symptom of the larger ills that plagued an institution that seemed more a parody of education than a pantheon for it.
When I graduated this past May, I thought my days of writing opinion pieces for The Post regarding Student Senate were far behind me. Boy was I wrong. Two weeks into the academic year and again the university has students calling for the resignation of the current president Megan Marzec.
As I sit down to write this I feel unsettled. This feeling comes from the recent response and behavior of some Student Senate members. During Wednesday’s meeting a large Jewish Bobcat population along with other students voiced their concerns about a video made by President Megan Marzec, which they believed to be offensive.
I am appalled by the actions of the current student senate president Megan Marzec. As everyone knows, she decided to take it upon herself to turn an act of charity into her own political statement. As student senate president she claims to be the voice of the student body on campus and should stand up for what the students believe and not what her personal feelings are.
Jewish students have asked for your resignation. And I agree with them. I think you should resign. Not because of your politics, but because of your lack of awareness, compassion, and mostly, because of your lack of vision. Leaders need vision, they need partners, and they need counsel.
I support Megan Marzec as Ohio University Student Senate president. I believe that her steadfast belief in a democratic student body at Ohio University and her passion for a just and fair educational system are two of her most critically important stands as student body leader.

If you’re for the greater good, why were you upset when Senate apologized for your outlandish video? You were absolutely not abiding by the greater good. In fact, right now the greater good wants you impeached for your insensitivity, lack of knowledge, and anti-Semitic remarks. And don’t you dare say you’re not anti-Semitic. At the end of your video you have a statement “for more information on bringing BDS to Ohio University.”
