Dear Bedpost,
The past week has been extremely stimulating in the activism area here at Ohio University. Starting with the excitement of the F--kRapeCulture rally Oct. 11 and continuing through the horrendous scene on Court Street over Homecoming weekend, I’ve never seen our campus so aflame with engagement and debate, especially over such an important issue.
As Chair of the Board of Trustees, I write to respond to Matt Farmer’s mistaken assertion that our Board is out of touch with students. Here are examples of my own interactions with students in just the last two weeks:
Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn will meet with Athens Police officials Monday to decide whether the state of Ohio will press charges following the investigation of the alleged Court Street rape that was filmed and posted to Instagram.
Entering its contest against Eastern Michigan, Ohio players stressed that they needed to play four quarters of complete football — a concept they were devoid of against Central Michigan on Oct. 12.
Ohio University’s Student Alumni Board collected more cans than ever before during this year’s Homecoming Weekend. The Student Alumni Board placed collection boxes in residence halls and uptown businesses for the annual canned food drive. All 2,982 cans were donated to the Athens Food Pantry.
Like students at countless colleges spanning the nation, odds are that you have been bombarded by a growing epidemic that for many goes either undetected or blatantly ignored. The toxic epidemic that I speak of is, of course, the electronic cigarette. The government has not brought down harsh regulations on this industry as it has with tobacco.
Feelings of powerlessness and guilt are often byproducts of rape, mental health experts say.
The Homecoming Weekend rape is a low point in our university community. First and foremost, I wish to state that I stand with the survivor, and I hope that you receive justice and find healing.
After weeks of anticipation for Ohio’s first game on the newly installed turf at Pruitt Field, the Bobcats’ home opener Saturday was not decided until the final play of overtime, resulting in an Ohio loss to Central Michigan, 2-1.
It was a tale of two races for the Ohio cross country teams this weekend at the Indiana State Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
Sara Bareilles braved the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium stage Saturday night for the final show of her Blessed Unrest tour alongside opening act Harper Blynn.
Locals and students came together during the weekend to witness a roughly five-hour series of professional and amateur drag performers.

Local high school students have a greater ability to attend religious-based camps thanks to an event hosted by an on-campus organization this weekend.
Ohio University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy got to amaze attendees with flying hovercrafts, cosmic rays and catapults during its biannual open house Saturday.
Men took to the streets Saturday to try out some new shoes more suitable for a night out rather than an afternoon protest.
Halloween came a little early for participants in the Run like Hell race Saturday night.
Since 1986, the Friends of India Endowment has financially supported local projects and students through fundraising and donations.
