Post Letter: Rob Portman shares values of families

Sometimes as I am reading the many political cards that have come in the mail or e-mail blasts sent out to many, I am aghast at the negative bashing that is going on among both the democratic and republican candidates. If I were in charge of what could and could not be sent out, I would say, Tell us what you are planning on doing specifically to make our America the best in the land. I know that I want our country to look a little bit more like our family's view toward budgeting and goal-setting and living within our means. Our credit cards are used for convenience, not for overspending. When we can't afford something, we wait and work to make our dream come true. So my vote this year is going to the candidates who are like minded AND the candidates who seem (looks are sometimes deceiving) as though they have the moral fiber to live up to their convictions.

Stray Skunk: Monday, Monday

When I wake up on a Monday morning I'm stiff. I drink my coffee like I'm bored with it. I make toast and don't even butter it because who cares, it's Monday, and I know already that today is going to be boring. The slow long draw of the beginning of the week is as detesting as it is expected. I take a shower and listen to some Bon Iver or The Damnwells; something Monday. It's slow and mostly solemn.

Dorm Daze: Searching for a solution to sleepless-student syndrome

No matter how hard we try, college students never get enough sleep. On any given weekday, 95 percent of the people walking about campus exhibit the same spacey, zombie-like look of sleep-deprived students. Weekends, although technically the perfect opportunity to catch up on work, aren't much better. Students practically become nocturnal, partying 'til 4 a.m. I calculated the amount of homework my professors assigned each week and, even subtracting all social interactions, satisfactorily completing every task is an impossible feat. Inevitably, sleep must be sacrificed.

Post Letter: Arrest magnifies racial tension

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. If this is the case, then justice is on the fritz. Here in Athens, many people like to think of this small college town as being diverse and accepting. After living here a little over a year, it has been made clear that Ohio University is far from perfect. Instead, it is a place of hostility for many members of the community.

Volleyball: 'Great' senior sets up team for success

As the Bobcat offense glides into motion, the ball is dug out of the back row into the waiting hands of setter Michelle Jantsch. With a quick flick of her wrists, Jantsch skies the ball inches behind the net where a hitter sends the ball flying toward the ground.

Trying to Find a Balance: Ignorance has no place in Senate

Last week Christine O' Donnell, running for U.S. Senate from Delaware, showed voters why hating government does not make one qualified to be in it. It is becoming a theme among the new faces who join the GOP - many candidates from the school of Sarah Palin - where knowledge and experience take a back seat to enthusiasm and smiles.
