Respect 'Post' despite lapses

There's no denying that the front-page apology on Monday's Post points to a colossal mistake made by a paper where I'm proud to have spent three years. There's also no denying that the unfortunate damage potentially made to Mr. Gunasekera's reputation outweighs the sizeable dent lodged in the credibility of The Post, as respectable a front-and-center retraction may be. I also understand the validation and, to quote Woody Allen, feelings of a small personal triumph some people in the university might feel by seeing The Post make such a mistake, and it goes without saying that the paper might have an uphill battle in getting back to where it belongs. I still lost my lunch a bit, however, seeing Mr. Corriher of the athletic department suggest greater (or any) oversight by members of this university. I'm sure that's what many so-called members of the university would love to see, especially a beleaguered athletic department that provided regular news unrelated to wins and losses when I was there, but the paper prides itself on being independent of the university and that's the only way it has been able to remain as consistently high-quality. With occasional lapses in judgment? Yes. All papers have them, and they deserve every bit of criticism rained down as a result. But Mr. Corriher's letter points to a greater problem he seems to have, along with many members of the university: a blatant lack of respect for writers and editors aged 18-22 who, I assure you, are more concerned about creating a high-quality, comprehensive resource five days a week than desperately trying to break that big story ' though if there is one, they're front and center to make sure people know about it as they deserve to.

'We could use another evil genius in the White House'

Kudos to Miss Griffith, who once again has licensed herself as our moral compass concerning our fickle voting habits. For we are college students who care only for nine dollar Natural Light beeramids at Wal-Mart.

Current sheriff's department lacks 'respect and morality'

I am writing to personally endorse Pat Kelly in his bid for Athens County Sheriff. Pat will receive my vote not only because I know him personally and have always found him to be honest and upfront, but also because I have had the opportunity to observe the current workings of the Sheriff's Department first hand. I have urged Pat to run for this position after many times seeing the complete and total lack of morality within the department under Castle's reign.

Green With Envy: Candidates' plans for carbon emissions don't cut it

I was going to write this week about the election, which candidate has the best plans for the environment ' then I realized that no one really deserved to be on a pedestal for their plans for the environment. Obama and Clinton have the most thorough plans of the candidates, but they are so similar that it's hard to decipher which is which.

Men's Basketball: Bobcats head to Oxford on a mission

The Bobcats are all at a loss when asked to explain their slow starts in recent games. They haven't been taking bad shots, and they've never played poorly enough to be out of any of the past six games after the first half, but they've also led only once heading into the break.

Mr. Right: Candidates must respect the outcome of primaries

By Tuesday we could have a clearer picture of who the Democratic presidential candidate will be, but the Democratic race is likely to take us all the way to the party convention this summer. Why? For starters, the primaries aren't over: Pennsylvania alone has a total of 158 pledged delegates, and its primary won't be held until April 22. There are also the Michigan and Florida primaries to consider. Because both states moved their primaries to earlier dates in violation of party rules, they were stripped of their voting delegates at the Democratic convention. This decision remains controversial, and if the delegates' voting privileges are reinstated, they will be in Hillary Clinton's corner. It goes without saying that the inclusion of these delegate-rich states could change the outcome of the primaries.
