Your Turn: Suicide attempt is reaping 'social consequences'

Darn you, The Post. Once again, a decision you've made has gotten enough people's knickers in a twist to warrant an actual bout of anger from my withered heart, enough to pry me away from the homework I am totally not procrastinating on long enough to respond to the photo you published of the suicide threat guy.

Your Turn: 'Post' columnist's 'ironic commentary' is 'absurd'

In regards to Alissa Griffith's columns, I am truly grateful. Not since Stephen Colbert's Colbert Report has the subtle genius of ironic commentary been used so effectively. This brilliant character she has created, that week in and out says some of the most laughable and entertaining thoughts, is wonderful. However, I feel her writing has been underappreciated, and worse, some people actually seem to be taking what she says literally. I know good comedy, and I assure you this is some of the finest this school has ever produced. Think about it: The very concept of her last column was absurd. A journalism major brazenly defending Christianity in a country where the population is 80 percent the same religion. Or the part where she cherry-picks averted tragedies and deems them examples of God's power, while ignoring all the other atrocities that occur daily. And better still, her gross display of ignorance when discussing topics like evolution. Her punch line, a series of random coincidences

Your Turn: 'There is nothing fun about the New World Order'

The article headlined Exhibit to Clarify Great Seal's Symbolism in your issue for Feb. 13, 2008, was enlightening. However, clarification implies confusion and questions ' especially when the government feels it has to counter this accusation: G? that the Seal draws on Satanism or polytheistic ritual to promote a universal new world order under which Earth would be ruled by a single omnipotent government. Wow! Which part of that statement is the government trying to debunk ' the Satanism part or the new world order part?

Men's Basketball: Bobcats' defense falls flat at Kent

KENT - The reason was simple enough, Allen Hester said. It wasn't that Ohio's shots weren't falling, or that Kent State was making tough 3-pointers, but no matter what they did, the Bobcats couldn't get defensive stops when they needed it most.

Legal Affairs could bill for records

Ohio University could start billing journalists and members of the public for copies of public records that it currently provides free of charge to all but commercial entities.

Mr. Right: McCain, the only Republican worthy of the White House

With Mitt Romney's exit from the Republican presidential race, it has become clear that Arizona Senator John McCain is the frontrunner for his party's nomination. Still, he faces a serious challenge from former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee ' especially in southern states and among evangelical Christian voters. While Huckabee's brand of pseudo-conservative populism may appeal to some, McCain has long demonstrated that he is the only rational conservative in the race and the only Republican candidate capable of being president of the United States. He is also the only candidate who can restore the three C's that the Republican Party is currently lacking: conservatism, compassion and conscience.

Your Turn: 'Post' should stop its wordy justifications, excuses

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but this is ridiculous; worthy of ridicule was the choice to use a photo with that man's face clearly recognizable. The man's desperate cry for help while in such a state of mind, however, is not ridiculous. My college newspaper ' nay, the editorial staff at The Post ' found it necessary to make sure that anyone who picked up Monday's edition would know that they felt it was the right thing to do by publishing such a photo and they are OK with that

Your Turn: 'Post' photo callous

On Monday, The Post published, on the front page, a photograph of a young man who was on the verge of taking his own life inside Baker University Center. The editor, no doubt anticipating criticism, wrote a very long letter attempting to justify the editorial decision to display the unfortunate person's face for the world to see. There is nothing I can say at this point to make amends for what The Post staff has so callously done and I'm sure criticism will mean nothing to them. But as a long-time faculty member at Ohio University, I would like to offer a sincere apology to the young man, his family and his loved ones for the insensitive way that The Post handled this issue.

Editorial: High honors

To our fellow academics: our long plagiarism nightmare is over. Some are worried about plagiarism in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, but we beg you to worry no more. The solution has come: an honor code.

Your Turn: Conservatives should back their candidate

Of late, I've been getting the impression that the so-called true conservatives would rather see a Democrat in office then their own Arizona senator, John McCain. A logical person may assume that even though these true conservatives may not see eye-to-eye with McCain, they would still support him ' because let's be honest, it is all they have. Why not cut your losses and unanimously back the man that will obviously represent your party in this upcoming election? These tunnel-vision conservatives are ruining any slim chance the party ever had. I hope these people can find some time to rest after their exhausting anti-McCain campaign because they are going to need all their energy to be infuriated about the elimination of their precious offensive military strategy on terrorism. Why, you ask? Because the next president will go by the name of Obama or Clinton. But hey, at least these two are not conservative impostors.

Green with Envy: Students are not entitled to 'infinite energy usage'

I remember when I was just a tyke at Ohio University: It was hot outside, and I was cranky and didn't like dealing with the humidity and the uncomfortable heat. Luckily, my room came equipped with an air conditioner which my roommate and I blasted at all hours of the day. I remember thinking, I pay a lot of money for this room

Your Turn: Join the fight against cancer with Relay for Life

Everyone reading this letter has been affected by cancer, whether by personally battling cancer, watching a loved one or friend face a diagnosis or, worst of all, dealing with a cancer-related death. It seems that cancer is everywhere. Unfortunately, I too have lost a loved one to cancer, and this loss has changed my life forever. After battling breast cancer twice, my aunt died in 2002 at the age of 53. My story of loss, sadness and grief is one that I know many people share.
