Dorm Sweet Dorm: Impress your roommates by making a variety of sweet treats

Now that move-in is finally over you’ve unpacked your stuff, settled into your room, and have probably met some new people in your residence hall.

With classes and club meetings starting this week, there’s no better time to chat up your new neighbors and get to know them. Why not add a sweet (or salty) snack to the mix to share? Here are three delicious — and dorm-friendly — recipes you can whip up in no time.

For this gluten free Rice Krispie Treat recipe, you will need, three cups of Rice Krispies Cereal, one  tablespoon of butter and half a bag of marshmallows. Melt the butter in a large microwave-safe bowl for about 10-15 seconds.

Add a third of the marshmallows to the bowl and heat in the microwave for 20 seconds, or until the marshmallows are melted. Stir thoroughly and repeat the last step until all marshmallows are added, melted and mixed in. Next, stir in the Rice Krispies cereal until thoroughly combined. Coat the container of your choice with cooking spray and transfer the mixture into it. Then, press down to flatten. Let cool and cut into squares. Enjoy!

You can also add in other mix-ins, such as candy, nut, or sprinkles, if you wish.

For this M&M Pretzel Kisses recipe, you will need waffle-shaped pretzels, Hershey's Kisses candy and M&Ms.

Cover a microwave-safe plate with pretzels. Unwrap Hershey Kisses and place one on each pretzel. Pop the plate in the microwave for about 10 seconds, or just long enough for the Hershey Kisses to soften (not completely melt). Gently press one M&M onto the tip of each Hershey Kiss. Chill for 30 minutes, and then serve.

For this taco dip, you will need one package of cream cheese, one can of chili or refried beans, and a cup of shredded cheddar cheese.

In a wide microwave-safe dish, first spread cream cheese on the bottom. Next, spread chili (or refried beans) on top of the cream cheese. After that, spread cheddar cheese evenly on top, then microwave for about two minutes. Serve with tortilla chips.
