Crime alert issued after reported sexual assault

A male is wanted for rape, according to an Ohio University Police Department crime alert release Friday night — the second crime alert released this semester.

According to the report, a female student was assaulted by a male suspect with a knife on the night of Nov. 12 while she was walking behind Boyd Hall on West Green.

A third party reported the incident Friday afternoon.

Because the female did not contact the police herself, OUPD was unable to provide a more detailed description of the suspect.

According to OUPD’s website, the department only issues crime alerts when the occurrence poses a threat to students, faculty or staff.

The alert noted that forcing anyone into sexual contact is a serious crime, and reminded students that they can report a suspicious person by calling 911.

OUPD also issued a crime alert a month ago after a reported rape that occurred on South Green.
