Dustin Lynch will perform at the Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium on Feb. 10.

RENT and Dustin Lynch are coming to MemAud for Performing Arts and Concert Series

Students at Ohio University will be “Over the Moon” with the acts slated to perform in the Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium.

With acts from several genres coming to Athens, the Performing Arts and Concert Series attempts to offer a show for everyone.

Seven performances have been scheduled for the Spring Semester, according to the Performing Arts and Concert Series’ website. Andrew Holzaepfel, the senior associate director of student activities, said more shows will be announced throughout the semester, and the Campus Involvement Center hopes to book approximately 18 acts.

“Between the performances we have already announced and some performances we will be announcing in the coming weeks, I think there is something for everyone,” Holzaepfel said in an email.

A live radio show recording of Mountain Stage will kick off the series on Jan. 22. Mountain Stage featured “seasoned legends and emerging stars” from a multitude of genres, ranging from indie rock to blues and country music, according to its website. The two-hour show is produced in West Virginia and distributed by NPR.

Country music star Dustin Lynch will also perform in MemAud on Feb. 10. The artist — known for his 2012 hit “Cowboys and Angels” and most recent single “Seein’ Red” — is no stranger to OU as he opened for country musician Easton Corbin in 2013.

Madison Swan, a junior studying meteorology, said she is interested in going to the Dustin Lynch concert. Swan said she enjoys the reduced prices and free events for students to attend concerts in MemAud.

“I like country music,” she said. “I like his songs on country radio. They’re fun.”

Holzaepfel said he is looking forward to the 20th Anniversary Tour of the Broadway show RENT, which will be performed in MemAud on March 28. Holzaepfel said he is a “huge” fan of the show and expects the show to sell out with the majority of the seats filled by OU students.

Christine Reisert, an undecided freshman, said she has not seen any shows in MemAud, but she is interested in going to a performance if she knows the artist. Reisert likes how OU brings artists to campus, noting that other campuses probably do not bring as many musicians.

“There is nothing like experiencing a live performance of any kind,” Holzaepfel said in an email. “It gives students the opportunity to experience something new and interesting in a shared environment.”
