Ohio University lost power to most of it's campus including Park Place around 12:30 a.m., Feb. 23, 2017. Alden Library, and most other university buildings were able to provide limited lighting with backup power.

OU cancels classes for Putnam and Seigfred halls because of a power outage

All classes in Putnam Hall and Seigfred Hall are canceled Thursday.

Those buildings are without power and are expected to be closed until at least 4 p.m. as crews work to restore power, according to a campus-wide email. No one is allowed in the buildings.

Facilities identified a failed switch as the cause of the electrical outage, and power is estimated to be restored to the buildings by 5 p.m.

Most of Ohio University lost power Thursday at about 12:30 a.m. After about 10 seconds, the university’s backup power system was able to keep the emergency lighting on.

Power to other buildings was restored at about 4:30 a.m.
