The best romantic comedies to watch on Valentine’s Day

Correction appended

Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love — even if you’re not in a relationship. The best way to relax on the holiday is to curl up on the couch and watch some movies. Here are the best films to watch:

For a friends’ night — John Tucker Must Die

There is nothing like plotting revenge on an ex, and who better to do it with than with your best friends. This laugh-out-loud film will have you fantasizing about messing with someone who messed with you. Grab all your single friends and sit around for a friends Valentine’s celebration.

Watching with your best friend — Friends with Benefits

If you’re in love with your best friend, this might be a good film to watch with him or her. Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake take up a friends with benefits relationship that leads to them falling in love. Its witty humor and sexy cast might lead you to open up to that special someone.

If you’re stuck at your parents’ house — You’ve Got Mail or Sleepless in Seattle

There is no doubt most parents are fans of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. The duo is iconic in rom-coms. The best part about these movies is there are no sex scenes.

Those looking for an escape — Letters to Juliet

Most rom-coms take place in very generic places, but you can escape to the whimsical countryside of Italy by watching this lesser-known title. The movie is hilarious with charming moments between the cast. Pair the movie with an Italian dinner.

For anyone who wants to laugh — 27 Dresses

27 Dresses is easily one of the best rom-coms out there. With punchy one-liners and the iconic bar scene involving “Bennie and the Jets,” it is the perfect film to laugh off the holiday. It’s also a perk to see Katherine Heigl and James Marsden act alongside each other.

Looking for a classic — Sixteen Candles

You can never go wrong with a Molly Ringwald film, and this is one of her best films. The ’80s vibes are the grooviest way to take on the holiday.

For someone looking for an unconventional story — The Big Sick

This film just came out last year, but it’s already one of the best rom-coms. It’s unconventional in the sense that everything goes wrong for the couple and it looks like there is really no help. Imagine a modern day retelling of While You Were Sleeping but a little less weird.

For the person looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day film — Valentine’s Day

The holiday is in the title, so it is automatically a go-to. The film takes a Love, Actually approach and seamlessly blends several stories together. Taylor Swift is also in the movie, so that’s a plus.

Correction: A previous version of this report incorrectly stated a movie title. Those looking for an escape should watch Letters to Juliet. The article has been updated to reflect the most accurate information.
