Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication is the state's first Center of Excellence in Cultural and Societal Transformation, according to a news release from Ohio's Board of Regents.
The Scripps College of Communication - which encompasses five individual schools spanning from Journalism to Media Arts - is being recognized by the Board of Regents for its programs that foster the human instinct toward creativity and expression
according to the news release.
Centers of Excellence help Ohio compete for resources, faculty and students from across the globe, according to its website.
This category is the last of six for the Centers of Excellence. This is OU's third designated Center of Excellence, and there are now 36 total in the state.
Eric Fingerhut, chancellor for the Board of Regents, will make the official announcement today at 1:30 p.m. at Templeton Blackburn Memorial Auditorium.

But it requires both cutting-edge research and a network of creative thinkers inspired by strong programs. ... The Scripps College and the other programs in this category help our state better compete for outside research funding
top faculty and top students by their focus on each institution's unique strengths.
So far, the Scripps College of Communication has garnered more than $54 million in outside funding, according to the news release.
