OU introduces online MBA program

After budget cuts in 2011 caused Ohio University’s College of Business to cut its master’s program, the college rebounded this semester by rolling out a new online version of the program.

As of last week, 81 students across the United States have enrolled in the two-year online Master’s in Business Administration program.

The nine-course, two-year program splits each semester into seven-week intervals in which students will take one class, said Tod Brokaw, director of graduate education in the College of Business.

“This will allow students to focus on one thing and really hone in on one class,” said William Lamb, associate dean for graduate programs for the College of Business.

The program utilizes Adobe Connect, allowing professors to give lectures while their students are elsewhere, Lamb said.

“It’s more of the ebb and flow of a typical course you’re used to.  Qualitatively, it’s not any different,” he said.

Additionally, students will be able to access lecture recordings for those who have to miss a class or need clarification during individual study time, Brokaw said.

“(Motivation) is always easier in the beginning when everything’s new.  Keeping motivation up is something the faculty is going to try to do,” he said.

Undergraduate students think that the program will be helpful to anyone looking to obtain their MBA.

“I wouldn’t mind taking it.  It sounds like a good thing,” said Mike Sweet, a senior studying Business Management.

In addition to the online class work, students will attend a conference in Athvens twice a year. This will allow the professors to meet their students and for valuable networking opportunities.  The first conference will be in April, Brokaw said.
