Ohio University Police Department investigating first two rape cases of the academic year

The Ohio University Police Department has fielded two reports of rape for the 2016-17 academic year. The Athens Police Department has received one other report of rape this academic year.

The incidents are the second and third sex-related crimes reported to OUPD for Fall Semester, following an incident of solicitation Sept. 1 on South Green near River Park Apartments.

In one incident, which occurred on Sept. 3 at about 3:40 a.m., a student alleged unwanted sexual contact by a known acquaintance in Pickering Hall. The case is under investigation, according to a police report.

Less than 24 hours following that incident, another individual reported alleged unwanted sexual contact from an acquaintance at 12:08 a.m. on Sept. 4. The incident occurred in Bush Hall, according to a police report, and is currently under investigation.

OUPD reported two sex-related crimes during the 2016 Summer Semester, in addition to 10 others during the 2016 Spring Semester and 16 more during the Fall Semester of 2015, according to a previous Post report.
