Let's Talk Life: Easy and healthy doughnut recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth

This week let's talk desserts. I'm sure we've all got hooked on the cooking video craze that is currently flooding Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. We all feel as though we could cook a five-course meal for the top restaurant in Manhattan thanks to these 60 second snippets.

Unfortunately, we don't see many healthy options shared throughout the masses. They're filled with butter, starches and ingredients that do a great job at making you feel sluggish. UNTIL NOW. I recently happened upon a "doughnut" dessert recipe that includes all of my favorite things: peanut butter, chocolate and apples. This is probably the best and healthiest alternative to your chocolate sheet cake.

Follow this recipe and your taste buds will thank you, and your diet will be just as happy...

What you'll need:

2 medium apples (peeled)

2 cups of quality chocolate (dark or semi-sweet)

1/2 cup peanut-butter

Sprinkles (optional)

Let's get cooking:

  1. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut each apple in 4 or 5 even slices about 1/2 inch thick. Once sliced, cut out the core of your slices using an apple corer (or knife) to really give the apples the appearance of a doughnut.
  3. Dry your apples as much as possible with paper towel.
  4. Melt chocolate in intervals of 30 seconds in microwave until silky smooth.
  5. Spread a layer of peanut butter on the tops of your apple slices.
  6. Dip each peanut butter covered slice in the chocolate — coating completely. Then place on parchment paper.
  7. Repeat the above process for all slices.
  8. Top each "doughnut" with sprinkles to taste. Then place sheet in refrigerator to set for 15-20 minutes.
  9. ENJOY!

There you have it! A guilt-free dessert that will have your taste buds singing!
