5 of John Mulaney’s funniest stand-up bits

Recently, stand-up comedian John Mulaney tweeted that his newest special will be released May 1 on Netflix. The new special, John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, marks his third hour-long special on Netflix. In honor of the former Saturday Night Live writer and his highly-regarded specials, here’s five of his funniest bits to prepare you for his new special.

1. Delta Airlines

Anyone who’s ever had to go through security airport or fly on a plane, understands that it’s tiresome and a bit ridiculous. In Mulaney’s 2012 stand-up special, John Mulaney: New in Town, he captures the absurdity of it all. It’s outlandish and over-the-top but, it’s just close enough to the truth that you can’t help but laugh along.

2. Why buy the cow?

In Mulaney’s 2015 special, John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid, he touches on his newly married status. He uses the analogy “why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?” to joke about the ins and outs of being in a relationship. Mulaney lists reasons why one should buy the cow, and as the bit goes on the analogy goes deeper and the bit gets funnier.

3. 13-Year-Olds

If you want to know who the meanest people are in the world, John Mulaney has the answer for you. In a shorter bit, Mulaney is able to capture just how terrifying the little eighth graders can be, and he tells you just why you should steer clear of them.

4. Real Estate Agents

Anyone who’s watched HGTV or has looked for places to live off-campus in Athens, knows just how amusing real estate agents and their clients can be. Mulaney talks about how his favorite part when looking for a house was his real estate agent. Between calling real estate agents the “true heroes,” to telling stories of his own house-hunting adventures, Mulaney nails just how comical it all can be.

5. Peace Be With You

Mulaney often jokes about his marriage to a Jewish woman and even jokes about it, even though he was raised Catholic. Though he no longer practices Catholicism, in this bit, he tells the story of the time he went to Christmas Eve mass with his parents, and boy, was he in for a surprise.
