Bonnie investigates her past as the wedding death looms on ‘How to Get Away with Murder’

How to Get Away with Murder’s latest episode finally showcased Nate (Billy Brown)’s father getting his court date and revealed a few surprisingly out-of-character moments, some of which will have enormous implications for the future. Here are the top moments from Thursday’s episode:

Nate’s father had his appeal case

Annalise (Viola Davis) has been working with Nate to help free his father ever since she won her Supreme Court case. This episode opened with Annalise saying they may have lost the case and the case was then shown throughout the episode in a series of flashbacks.

The case seemed to be going well until the prosecution brought forward a letter Nate wrote when he was 14. The letter stated Nate felt safer with his father in prison and was a huge blow to their case. In the end, Connor (Jack Falahee) gave Gabriel (Rome Flynn) an idea to present the size of a jail cell and the silence experienced in solitary confinement. In a bold move, Annalise apologized to Connor for taking him off the case and the jury found Nate’s father not guilty. The relationship between Annalise and Connor will certainly continue to evolve in an interesting way now that Annalise swallowed her pride and apologized to him.

Laurel discovered what Frank was doing

Frank (Charlie Weber) has been watching Gabriel via cameras to figure out who he truly is. When Laurel (Karla Souza) and Gabriel were working together in his apartment, Frank watched with jealousy through the cameras. The show seemed to hint at a potential relationship between Laurel and Gabriel, which may seem like a cheap replacement of Wes for some viewers.

Laurel confronted Frank about watching Gabriel, but rather than reprimand him, she asked who Gabriel was. With a potential romance between Laurel and Gabriel and a collaboration between Laurel and Frank, Laurel may be the key to figuring out who Gabriel really is and what his true motives are.

Bonnie started to pursue her past

Nate has been busy investigating Bonnie (Liza Weil)’s past to discover what really happened to her baby. When Annalise told Bonnie what was happening, she was obviously distraught as she had previously believed the baby died. This episode, Bonnie was still upset about what had happened, but she decided to go find her sister. Her sister was photographed leaving the hospital with the baby, so she should have answers for Bonnie. The season has focused heavily on Bonnie and the mystery of her child, making viewers wonder where, and who, her child really is.

Asher’s fate is revealed in the flash-forward

The identity of the individual who died at the wedding is still unknown, however, viewers now know it isn’t Asher (Matt McGorry). Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) is still missing, so Connor began looking in the parking lot for him. As he walks through the parking lot, he spots his mom and Asher partaking in a very sexual act. Audiences were left stunned as questions of why Asher is hooking up with Connor’s mom arose. As the flash-forward continues to play out, it will be fascinating to see how and why the characters are doing what they’re doing and, of course, see who’s dead.

How To Get Away With Murder airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
