TV Review: Time is a Jeremy Bearimy and Chidi has a mental breakdown on ‘The Good Place’

The Good Place invented plot twist endings, and last week ended with the core four finding out that Michael (Ted Danson) and Janet (D’Arcy Carden) were from the afterlife. Once they find this out, they are forced to explain to the group what the afterlife is and what has happened to them since the beginning.

That’s when Michael explains that time in the afterlife is measured in Jeremy Bearimy.

While time in the human world is measured with a straight timeline, the afterlife is measured in a line that looks like the name Jeremy Bearimy in human cursive. Michael and Janet then explain how it can relate to any sort of time and can be multiple times at the same time.

“This is Tuesdays and also July, and sometimes it’s never,” Janet said.

The core four has no idea how to react to the news that no matter what they do now, they will return to the bad place. So Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) give all of Tahani’s money away and get married, Chidi (William Jackson Harper) has a mental breakdown that includes eating the worst foods and repeatedly taking his shirt off and Eleanor (Kristen Bell) can’t shake her ethical nature and once again has to pull the group together to figure out a way out of this.

While the episode was devastating to each of the core four in different ways, Chidi’s mental breakdown proved to be the highlight of the show for viewers. Between showing off his arms and his abs, buying M&M's, Peeps and chili from the store and completely blowing off his lecture for his students, Chidi’s mental state was certainly entertaining for everyone.

“You put the peeps in the chili pot and eat them all up,” Chidi sang to the tune of  “Coconut” by Harry Nilsson.

Here’s how viewers reacted on Twitter:
