TV Review: Rose is finally dead and Jane’s book is taking off on ‘Jane The Virgin’

As the second to last episode in the series, audiences knew a lot of loose ends would need to be squared away this week before the big finale with Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Rafael’s (Justin Baldoni) wedding.

However, no one was expecting the excitement this episode held.

Last week’s episode ended with Jane finding an agent to represent her book and Rose (Bridget Regan) escaping prison. Fans knew something big was going to happen with Rose, but this was a wild ride.

This week, Jane is working on dealing with her anxiety over Rose, and she even starts seeing a therapist. Jane gets her anxiety in check and pushes forward with finding a publisher. However, she’s informed the editors won’t meet with her until Michael (Brett Dier) signs the paperwork, allowing Jane to use his information.

Michael comes to Miami to talk with Jane, and he brings his new, pregnant wife, Charlie (Haley Lu Richardson). Charlie tells Jane she doesn’t want Michael to sign the papers, and Jane panics. After some conversation and closure on their feelings, Michael and Charlie agree to sign the papers for Jane, and the old lovers say their final goodbyes.

Meanwhile, Rogelio (Jaime Camil) gets news that his hit TV show is moving their shooting location to New York, so Rogelio must make a choice to stay in Miami and be recast or move to New York and be separated from his family. Rogelio manages to convince Xiomara (Andrea Navedo), Darcy (Justina Machado) and even Esteban (Keller Wortham), provided he gives Esteban one of the main characters in the show. Xiomara and Rogelio get emotional about moving and don’t know how they’re going to say goodbye.

After Jane finally gets a handle on her anxiety, she is held hostage by Rose, who breaks into her house. Rose tells Jane if she doesn’t get Luisa (Yara Martinez) to come to Rogelio’s premiere party, Rose will kill people they love. Luisa agrees to come, and Rose takes Jane to the party dressed in a disguise.

“You know what? I’m not scared of you anymore,” Jane said. “I’m just freaking sick of you. I tell my son every night that monsters aren’t real, but they are. I’m looking at one. But you’ll never win because you know what else I tell him? Good always triumphs over evil.”

Rafael notices Jane in the disguise and tries to stop Rose. However, Luisa makes it before Rose can kill either Jane or Rafael and tells Rose she’s going to poison herself so her family will finally be safe. However, Luisa lies and uses this as a distraction to push Rose off the roof and onto a statue that impales her.

After finding out what Luisa did to save them, Rafael and Jane make amends with Rafael’s sister and invite her to the wedding. Luisa is thrilled and promises to attend. Then, Rafael tells Jane he quit the Marbella job so they could live a simple life together, just a real estate agent, a writer and a small house for their little family.

Then, Jane gets the call that her book was auctioned off for $500,000, when she only expected between $25,000 to $50,000.

“You did it, Jane,” Rafael said. “You did this. So much for a small life.”

“Screw that; we’re rich!” Jane said.

And with that, the narrator (Anthony Mendez) reminded the audience: “to be continued … one more time.”

There is one more episode to wrap up a four-season show. Audiences are sad about the show ending, but the two-hour season finale is sure to be the best episode of Jane The Virgin yet.

Here’s how audiences reacted on Twitter:

The series finale of Jane The Virgin airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. on the CW.
