5 outdoorsy date ideas to make fall cuffing season less spooky

‘Tis the season for cuffing. Fall usually indicates two things: It’s time to locate that oversized sweater you haven’t seen in a year, and everyone is suddenly in a relationship. Yes, the leaves are not the only things that fall during the cold, lonely autumn months.

Whether you are in a long-term relationship or having a seasonal fling, amp up your dating game this season to make this fall the most memorable. The weather might be cooling down, but it’s time to add some heat to your dates. Here are a few romantic fall dates you can treat your honey to this season:

Pumpkin picking

Put the dinner and a movie date to shame for something more classic rather than cliche. Insert: pumpkin picking. There’s nothing more nostalgic than spending a day searching for that perfect pumpkin and coming home to carve it. The only thing that could make it better is doing it with your significant other. The 2019 season at Libby’s Pumpkin Patch, 41251 State Farm Road, begins Sept. 28 and is located just a few miles from Ohio University. With pumpkins ranging from $1 to $7, pumpkin picking is an affordable yet adorable way to get your romance on this spooky season.

Haunted maze

Looking for the perfect excuse to jump into your partner's arms? A haunted maze will certainly do the trick. If you’re brave enough, head to the Field of Screams at Murphy’s Farm, 28364 Osborne Road, for two miles of haunted woods and mazes. The haunted attraction opens Sept. 28 and is only $10 per person. You might leave with sweaty palms and an increased heart rate, but at least you’ll have your boo to grab onto.

Have a horror movie marathon—outside

Take “Netflix and chill” to a new level by having a horror movie marathon outside. Grab your trusty hammock and full-charged laptop for a spooky yet romantic time under the stars. The date idea is super low-key but has all the spooks you need to spark up your romance. You’ll be screaming and hiding your eyes together in no time with this go-to horror movie list.

Football game

Nothing screams fall more than football and tailgating. If your date is into sports, going to a game together is a great way to get closer with each other. To make the day even more fun and memorable, invite another couple and make it a double date. Show your school spirit with your partner, and attend one of the last home games of the season at Peden Stadium on Oct. 12 and 19 as well as Nov. 6 and 12.

Athens Farmers Market

Farmers markets are the perfect atmosphere for a first date. Throw on a flannel, grab some coffee beforehand and spend a Saturday morning with your honey by strolling around the Athens Farmers Market, 1000 East State St. Luckily, the local event takes place each week from 9 a.m to noon. Be inspired by what’s in season while spending a beautiful fall day with your someone special. Don’t forget to share an apple-cider and a caramel apple!
