TV Review: Janet is saved, Tahani is feeling small on ‘The Good Place’

Every week, the characters of The Good Place get closer to succeeding with the experiment to save humanity. This week, the group takes a slight break from the experiment to save Janet (D’Arcy Carden).

Last week’s episode ended with Jason (Manny Jacinto) discovering Janet was replaced by Bad Janet after she blew up Glenn (Josh Siegal). Michael (Ted Danson) and Jason decide to go save Janet from the bad place, while Eleanor (Kristen Bell) and Tahani (Jameela Jamil) hold down the fort.

This week’s episode picks up with Michael and Jason’s adventure to save Janet from the bad place, but it’s proving to be slightly difficult for Michael to be back at his original home. Michael pretends to be Vicky (Tiya Sircar), who is impersonating Michael already, and almost gets caught by the bad place, except they think it’s all an act and that Michael and Jason are fake to torture Janet.

Jason takes this opportunity to confess his love for Janet and tell her he wants her back, and Janet clearly wants him back, too. They all play off the situation very well, so Michael and Jason are able to get Janet out safely.

Meanwhile, back in the neighborhood, Eleanor and Tahani are trying to get the four humans to bond. Tahani, however, is feeling useless, like she doesn’t have a big enough role in the operation. She helps Derek (Jason Mantzoukas) figure out how to run the neighborhood while Janet is detained, and Eleanor is busy helping Chidi (William Jackson Harper).

Chidi realizes he hasn’t taken any risks since he’s been in the afterlife, and Eleanor is helping him learn some trust. She is able to get Chidi to go to the party Tahani throws, but his romantic interaction with Simone (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) is almost too much for Eleanor to handle.

In a heart-to-heart with Tahani, Eleanor helps her realize that she is much more important than she thinks.

“The dodos in that house are literally the four most important human begins in the universe,” Eleanor said. “I wanted you to take care of them because I trust you. Plus, your parties aren’t pointless. They’re opportunities for them to bond and form friendships, you know — the thing we need them to do so we’re not all tortured forever.”

Now that Janet is back and Tahani isn’t feeling pointless anymore, the gears can shift toward the humans once again.
