Weekender Briefs: What’s happening, rescheduled or canceled this weekend

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of events have been canceled or rescheduled. However, some organizations and Athens groups are adapting to the Ohio stay-at-home order and hosting events online through virtual services, like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Here’s a list of some events still happening and events that have been rescheduled or canceled:

Friday, April 24

90s Night Live From Quarantine With DJ Barticus at 9 p.m. hosted by WOUB. DJ Barticus will play music to get people dancing and having fun, all virtually through a Twitch.tv stream or on Instagram live @bartykutz.

Central’s Got Talent: Quarantine Edition at 7 p.m. hosted by Central Avenue United Methodist Church. Join the talent show via Zoom with any talent you’d like to showcase. To enter the talent show, email natalie.dunckel@centralavenue.net or send them a Facebook message.

Happy Hour Painting at 5:30 p.m. hosted by The Dairy Barn Arts Center. Join Lyn Stanton as she teaches how to paint q-tip trees. You will need a canvas, acrylic paint, paint brushes, paint pallet, water bucket and a rag. For more information, check out The Dairy Barn’s website

WOUB YouTube Premiere at 8 p.m. on YouTube. WOUB Public Media continues its YouTube release of locally-produced documentaries. This week’s documentary is The 1900: Voices From the Athens Asylum. Viewers can tune in here.

Saturday, April 25

The Super QuaranSTREAM Series at 7 p.m. hosted by ACRN in collaboration with Athens Live Music. Join local and regional artists on a live Twitch.tv stream throughout the evening. Attendees to the stream can also make donations.

Tuesday, April 28

Woven Beaded Earrings Workshop at 5:30 p.m. hosted by The Dairy Barn Arts Center. Join Lyn Stanton as attendees learn to do a “brick stitch” which will use large pony beads to create a successful pattern. Attendees need beads, beading needles and thread. MFA Thesis Season 2020 at 5 p.m. hosted by Ohio University Art Galleries. Each show was supposed to honor the MFA and BFA thesis exhibitions, but the event has been canceled.

Wednesday, April 29

A League of their Own at 7 p.m. at the Athena Grand. The film starring Geena Davis, Tom Hanks and Rosie O’Donnell follows the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The showing has been canceled due to the coronavirus quarantine.
