Weekender Briefs: What’s happening this week

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of events have been canceled or rescheduled. However, some organizations and Athens groups are adapting to the Ohio stay-at-home order and hosting events online through virtual services, like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Here’s a list of some events still happening this week:

Friday, June 5

WOUB’s Campsite Dance Party at 9 p.m., hosted by DJ Barticus, Johnny Clift and WOUB. Join DJ Barticus as he commemorates the Nelsonville Music Festival that was canceled due to COVID-19. He will be donating funds raised during the stream to the Columbus Freedom Fund, and these funds will be matched by business partners Fluff Bakery, Silver Serpent, Cool Digs, Used Kids Records, Lori Crook Elizabeth’s Records and more. You can stream the event through Twitch.tv or on Instagram @bartykutz.

Saturday, June 6

DMTK at Dutch Creek Winery at 2 p.m., hosted by Dr. May’s Thai Kitchen and Dutch Creek Winery. Come enjoy cool drinks and a nice outdoor atmosphere at Dutch Creek Winery’s outside patio with some Thai food from the food truck until 6 p.m. People can order online during serving hours, and masks are encouraged.

Virtual Family Science Saturday at 11 a.m., hosted by Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery. If you’re missing the annual Family Science Saturday at OU, it is now online. Join the OU Chemistry Society students and museum staff for a virtual exploration of chemistry in everyday life.

Monday, June 8

Silver Linings Moments at 10 a.m., hosted by ARTS/West and the Athens poet laureate. Join Wendy McVicker for a weekly reading of a poem of her choice that she hopes will bring joy and comfort to listeners in this uncertain time. People can tune in through Facebook.

Tuesday, June 9

Virtual Training: Microsoft Excel Part Two at 9 a.m., hosted by Small Business Development Center at OU. Part two of this training seminar explores Microsoft Excel formulas, organizing data and working with charts and graphs. Computer access is required. Use the Facebook ticket link below to register.

Wednesday, June 10
