Ohio University First Lady Ruthie Nellis and President Duane Nellis wave during the annual homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.

Homecoming to be held virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic

The Ohio University Alumni Association announced Thursday the 2020 Homecoming Week will be held online to help reduce density on campus and combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Homecoming Week, which is the week of Oct. 5, is still being planned by the Alumni Association. It will feature online activities and opportunities to connect alumni, according to a release from the OU Alumni Association.

The annual Alumni Awards Gala, which is usually scheduled on the Friday of Homecoming Week, will be postponed until the 2021 Homecoming.

This comes after the Mid-American Conference decided to postpone its football season this fall.

Updates to the events will be posted on OU’s homecoming website.

"Like all of you, we eagerly anticipate Homecoming Week each year as a time of togetherness and celebration of the Bobcat family,” Essak Kopp, executive director of the Alumni Association, said in the release.
