Trump ad takes Dr. Fauci out of context; Athens County surpasses 1,000 total cases of COVID-19

Today is Monday, October 12, 2020. Here’s what you need to know:

Good morning,

In a recent Trump campaign advertisement, Dr. Fauci is taken out of context, in which he praises President Trump's action on COVID-19 relief. Fauci stated that he did not give consent to being apart of the ad that features him stating, “I can’t imagine that anyone could be doing more.”

Although a date is not provided in the ad, the quote was attributed from an interview in March with Fox News, in which Fauci praises the White House coronavirus task force’s round-the-clock effort to respond to the pandemic.

"In my nearly five decades of public service, I have never publicly endorsed any political candidate. The comments attributed to me without my permission in the GOP campaign ad were taken out of context from a broad statement I made months ago about the efforts of federal public health officials," Fauci said in a statement to CNN.
