Owl found in the branches of Rockefeller Center Christmas tree; local health department administrator speaks on COVID-19 in Athens County

Today is Friday, Nov 20, 2020. Here’s what you need to know:

Good morning,

We don’t remember an owl being a part of the Twelve Days of Christmas.

A worker beginning assembly on New York’s iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree spotted a male Saw-whet owl in the branches on Monday. The owl — later named Rockefeller — was found dehydrated and hungry, but is now safe at the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in Saugerties, New York.

Ellen Kalish, director and founder of the center, said Rockefeller was brought in Wednesday and has since indulged in a buffet of mice and been seen by a vet. Rockefeller is healthy and expected to be released back into the wild over the weekend.
