Biden hits ground running in COVID-19 action; here’s how OU’s dining halls are operating with more students

Today is Friday, January 22, 2021. Here’s what you need to know:

Good morning,

Newly-inaugurated President Biden has wasted no time in enacting various executive orders with nearly 30 having been signed in his first two days in office. Much of the orders put forth by Biden related to undoing actions taken by former President Trump throughout the last four years.

On Thursday, Biden signed a new executive order enacting the Defense Protection Act in an effort to increase supplies to help muddle through the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, a mask shortage had citizens resort to making their own masks or improvising, the Defense Protection Act aims to increase inventory numbers for masks and vaccines.

During Thursday’s press briefing, the Biden Administration announced they had already identified suppliers and begun working cohesively. The DPA will also target vaccine production through increasing vials of vaccines, syringes for administering and supplies for safe transport. In addition to the DPA, Biden announced a plan to introduce a “COVID-19 liaison” for each state.
