Softball: Bobcats split doubleheader Vs. Western Michigan

Ohio continued its conference play against Western Michigan at home in a doubleheader Friday. The Bobcats were looking to continue their momentum after picking up three out of four games against Mid-American Conference opponent Northern Illinois last weekend. The Bobcats were able to pick up the first game of the afternoon by a score of 4-2 . Then in the second game, it went back and forth, but Western Michigan was able to squeak it out and come away with the win by the score of 10-8.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Katie Yun had a two RBI double followed by another two RBI double by Annalia Paoli. The rally gave the Bobcats (8-7, 4-2 MAC) a comfortable 4-0 lead. Mackensie Kohl pitched a complete game for the Bobcats and got the win along with four strikeouts. Western Michigan (5-14, 1-5 MAC) was able to pick up a run in the fourth and fifth inning. But the Kohl and the Bobcats were able to maintain their lead and win the first game of the doubleheader with a score of 4-2. 

Game 2: Ohio 8 Western Michigan  10

Offense was the theme in this game with a total of 18 runs being scored. The Bobcats trailed 4-1 going into the fifth inning but scored four runs to take the lead. The comeback was led by Alexis Dawe who drove in two runs with a double and a RBI double from Mickenzie Vaughn and another RBI double by Katie Yun, giving the Bobcats a 5-4 advantage.

Western Michigan was able to put up two runs in the top of the seventh to give them the lead. The Bobcats needed two runs in the bottom of the seventh to keep things going. They were able to get a couple runners on base but were unable to score, giving Western Michigan a 10-8 win.

What’s Next ?

The Bobcats will be back in action to finish up their series against Western Michigan in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Ohio Softball Field.
