Weekly Weather: Rain clearing out before Halloween day, chilly conditions ahead next week

A look at the weekend:

A strong low-pressure system will move into the Athens area Thursday night into Friday, which will bring a high chance for rain showers and the potential for thunderstorms throughout the day. Winds during the day will be light and from the south, bringing in slightly warmer temperatures with highs in the low 60s and lows in the high 40s.

As the low pressure moves out of the Athens area Saturday, there will be a chance for showers in the morning and afternoon, with chances diminishing by 7 p.m. The highs will be in the upper 50s and the lows will be in the low 40s.

Once the low pressure moves out of the Athens area, high pressure will build, creating beautiful conditions for Halloween. It will be partly cloudy throughout the day with no precipitation. The highs will be in the low 60s and lows in the low 40s.

Coming up next week:

The high pressure will likely linger for the start of the workweek before a cold front pushes into the Athens area Tuesday night into Wednesday. That will create another chance for rain showers, or at least cloudy, fall-like conditions. The cold front will also drop temperatures closer to the normal fall temperatures, with lows potentially falling below freezing and highs barely reaching 50 throughout the week. Although cold, conditions will likely remain calm and dry following the passage of the cold front.
