The Athens City-County Health Department reported a new COVID-19 related death Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 89 in the county.
Athens County remains in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System’s red risk level, indicating a very high level of exposure and spread. There are currently 264 active cases.
As of Nov. 2, 48.61% of county residents have begun the vaccination process, with 45.69% fully vaccinated.
As of Oct. 29, Ohio University’s Athens campus currently has a 0.8% total positivity rate across students and employees, according to the university’s COVID-19 Dashboard. The total vaccination rate amounts to 84.1% on the Athens Campus.
Only one space is occupied for COVID-19 isolation and no quarantine spaces are in use. All but one residence hall is at 0% positivity.
