Here’s 10 things to do with your dad during Dad’s Weekend

Dad’s Weekend at Ohio University is Nov. 4-6 this year. If you’re having your dad come down to Athens, but don’t know what to do with him, fear not. Here are ten activities you can do with your dad on campus and around Athens:

Go golfing

For $100, you and your dad can participate in the “Dads Weekend 9-Hole Scramble” by Bobcats Wellbeing and Campus Recreation on Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. What screams “dad” more than golf? More information can be found here.

Enjoy the outdoors

Not feeling golf? Looking for something a little more relaxed? Bobcats Wellbeing and Campus Recreation are also putting on a stargazing event on Friday Nov. 8 from 8-10:30 p.m for $10. Enjoy a short hike around the Ridges, roasted marshmallows and stargazing, as well as some campfire stories. More information can be found here.

Take a trip to Strouds or Lake Hope

Ohio University is lucky to be surrounded by a plethora of parks. Strouds Run State Park and Lake Hope State Park are pretty much right around the corner. You and your dad can enjoy a nice day soaking in nature through a hike at Strouds or Lake Hope. Each park has a great variety of trails.

Enjoy Court Street food

Not in the mood to travel off campus? Want to find some fun here? Consider doing a “Court Street Crawl.” Start with appetizers at one Court Street restaurant, lunch or dinner at another and if you still have room, dessert at the next. Court Street has quite the selection of restaurants, so it’s likely your cravings will be covered! Feeling Mexican? Try El Tenampa or Big Mamma’s Burritos. Craving sushi? Mr. Hibachi’s got you covered. Feeling pizza? You can’t come to Court Street without making a stop at Goodfellas or Courtside Pizza. Court Street really does have it all. Explore it.

Visit your favorite bars

Stop by your favorite bars and show your dad your favorite drinks to order. Court Street is surely not lacking in the bar department. There’s Pigskin, The C.I., The Crystal, Pawpurr’s, The J Bar and the list goes on. Explore Court Street and all the bars it has to offer.

Grab a coffee at your favorite cafe

Do you and your dad like coffee? Maybe even love it? You can stop by a number of local coffee establishments. Frontroom Coffee House, located on the fourth floor of Baker University Center would be a great place to start. Frontroom is cashless, though they accept card, Bobcat Cash and Flexpoints! Another great coffee stop would be Donkey Coffee and Espresso located on W. Washington Street. Quite the Athens staple, you really can’t make a trip to OU without going to Donkey.

See a movie

Enjoy a movie at The Athena Cinema. The Athena is currently showing “Triangle of Sadness,” “TÁR” and “Pearl.”

Walk through Emeriti Park

Go on a walk through Emeriti Park. Conveniently located right on campus (across from the Ping Center), Emeriti is the perfect place for a stroll. There are also benches placed throughout if you and your dad would rather sit and enjoy the surrounding nature than walk. This would be the perfect dad’s weekend activity, not to mention the absolutely gorgeous scenery due to the fall weather. Fall in Athens truly can’t be beat.

Go to the farmer’s market

On Nov. 5, Athen’s will hold their farmer’s market from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. at 701 E. State St. You and your dad can shop locally grown and locally made goods to take back home.

Grab some OU gear at the bookstore

The College Book Store is surely somewhere you and your dad should stop this weekend. It has all the solutions to your OU swag needs, and maybe you can even convince your dad to buy you a sweatshirt or two.

Have a fun and safe Dad’s Weekend, Bobcats!
