Fresh Finds Friday: Post Malone returns in 2023 with 'Chemical;" Dominic Fike embarks on a new path; SZA teams up with Doja Cat on a remix of 'Kill Bill'

Happy spring, Bobcats. It’s the end of a beautiful week, and you know what the best part of my week is? Listening to new music. With that being said, it's always good to listen to some new tunes throughout the week and going into the weekend.

While everyone has their favorite genre of music, we’ve made a playlist that will appeal to any mood or preference. Below are new songs that are perfect for walking to class, working out at the gym, sitting around in your dorm or cranking out those last-minute papers. Here are five new songs to get you through the week:

“Chemical” by Post Malone

Post Malone returns with another pop-centric track on "Chemical" The artist is known for his past projects such as "Congratulations" and “Sunflower," which appeared on the soundtrack of 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." While it's rather happy musically, it's a breakup song where Malone associates his partner with Oxytocin, a happy chemical, and can't stop thinking about them; there is an endless cycle of hooking up and breaking their boundaries conversed in the lyrics "Oxytocin makin' it all okay when I come down it doesn't feel the same/ You break me, then I break my rules Last time was the last time, too it's fucked up, I know but I'm still."

“Dancing In The Courthouse” by Dominic Fike

Artist and Actor Dominic Fike have made waves in both careers; his debut in acting had him playing a role in the hit HBO show “Euphoria,” and he has released songs such as “Florida” and “3 Nights, now returning with something a little different on “Dancing In The Courthouse.” As you guessed, it is about dancing in a courthouse, all while his typical creative lyricism discusses growing up in Florida; the music video for the song is even filmed there; you can watch the music video here

“Why Does The Earth Give Us People To Love (Album)” by Kara Jackson

Illinois-based artist Kara Jackson is coming onto the scene with her debut album “Why Does The Earth Give Us People To Love.” This is a great album title and an even better question being posed. Songs such as “No Fun/Party,” and “Lily” discuss past loves. The track, “Free” has Jackson starting the journey of setting boundaries and healing after a breakup, all of these themes cement into the central idea of if the Earth gives us people to love only to take it away, you go searching. In this case, Jackson went searching and found the importance of valuing her time and her worth in love.

“Vroom Vroom” by halfBREED

halfBREED is a hip-hop duo culminating two DMV stars *Logic and *C Dot Castro. Not too long ago, Logic released his first independent studio album “College Park” and now returns with Castro on “Vroom Vroom,” which is among a three-song EP entitled “3P.” “Vroom Vroom” culminates for Logic the themes of being a father, exemplified in the lyrics “Vroom, Vroom Daddy calls it Maybach but my baby calls it (Vroom Vroom).” The song is accompanied by a visual that you can watch here.

“Kill Bill” by SZA, Doja Cat

The new remix of the SZA hit “Kill Bill,” comes with the addition of Doja Cat, who details her healing following a recent breakup, “I’m in a funk so I bought a bouquet of roses/ And cut them at your doorstep.” The song is about getting revenge on your ex through the murder of the ex and his new lover, exemplified in the lyrics, “I might kill my ex, not the best idea, his new girlfriend’s next.”
