Police Blotter: Intoxicated man found at Piggly Wiggly, motorcycle crash into cornfield

Just hangin’ around

A suspicious vehicle parked along the road on Sand Ridge Road in Millfield was reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office. 

Once officers were on the scene and made contact with the vehicle driver and passenger as they were on their cell phones.

No criminal activity was observed and deputies returned to patrol. 

Are we even surprised.. 

An instance of criminal mischief in Sargent Hall was reported to the Ohio University Police Department.

A report was taken for tampering of an exit sign.

He’s Br(ok)en

An open 911 call on Vore Ridge Road in Athens was reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office. 

Upon arrival, no emergency was located and the call was found to have come from a broken phone. Deputies returned to patrol.

Menacing offenses in Voigt Hall were reported to the Ohio University Police Department.

The victim reported concerning behavior and comments by a suspect that the victim knew.

Weed-ed out

The Sheriff’s Office assisted the Athens County Prosecutor's Office and the Adult Parole Authority with a warrant on Depot Street in New Marshfield. 

While on the scene, three marijuana plants were seized and placed in evidence for destruction.

I think we know who messed with the exit sign…

A student in Sargent Hall was charged with criminal mischief and possessing a fake ID, according to OUPD.

The offenses that the student was charged with were disorderly conduct offenses.

Dogs on the run

A complaint of loose dogs at a bicycle event in Chauncey was reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office. 

Deputies located the owner of the dogs, and the individual came and retrieved them. 

Paw paw patrol

A suspicious person in the woods near Carr Road in Nelsonville was reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, officers were waved down by the individual who admitted to being in the woods.

The man told deputies that he was looking for paw paws and forgot to tell his family about his whereabouts.

Deputies returned to patrol.

Getting wiggly at the Piggly

Sheriff’s County officers were on patrol when they noticed a suspicious vehicle in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot in The Plains.

Officers made contact with the individual and determined that the man was under the influence of alcohol.

The man made contact with a sober party to take him home. He was issued a citation for disorderly conduct by intoxication and open container.

Shot in the dark

After a patient arrived at Ohio Health O’Bleness Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene.

The officers determined the gunshot wound was accidental.

Cornball

Sheriff’s Office deputies tried to stop a man operating a motorcycle on Baker Road in Albany, which turned into a pursuit.

Officers followed the man through multiple residential lawns, where he then wrecked into a cornfield. The man then fled on foot and disappeared into the cornfield.

Deputies recovered the motorcycle and returned it to its owner.
